The origins of Mirror Image can be traced to 1997 when Matt Merchant was first introduced to Roger Morris. The following year, Matt moved to Huntsville and over the next 3 years he and Roger played in various church events and lead worship for Wednesday Night Bible Study at First Baptist Church, Huntsville. During this time they developed songs and the unique sound that became Mirror Image, launching the band in the Summer of 2001. The band's name comes from 1st Corithians, where Paul states "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ" - Roger's wife Cathy pointed out that this sets forth a bar for our lives, that we are to live as "mirror images" of Christ.
In January 2002, the band recorded a Demo CD at 4th Creation Studio (Conroe, Texas) followed by the first of several indie releases starting in 2004. In 2006, Shawn Sanderson joined on vocals. Roger served as worship leader for the contemporary service at First Baptist, Huntsville, from 2007-2008, and at Covenant Fellowship (Huntsville) from it's launch in 2008 through 2011 (Baptist Standard list the move from First Baptist to Covenant). The band continues to record today, but rarely plays live. |
