Conclusion

Many people today question the need for Sunday services.  Others feel that they can worship God through other mediums such as television broadcast.  Finally, there some that question what day we should worship God.

The Greek word ekklesia translated in this verse as "church" has the meaning of "assembly" or "gathering."  The church is not the building, but is all the Christian believers.  No matter what denomination a person belongs too, we are all part of the Christian body that is the church.

As Christians we are to meet and gather together.  Today people often associate this verse to mean a "Sunday Church assembly."  But the verse does not specify a time, place, frequency, or length of such meetings.  It is more likely that Paul was saying that we are to gather together often as we wait for the Day in which Jesus returns.  Therefore, as Christians we should spend time in fellowship with other Christians and not just on Sundays.

We are called to come together and worship the Lord.  Obviously, we can not meet all in the same place.  Nor does the place of gathering have to be an imposing building with stain glass.  Because of basic services that must be provided everyday, some people have to work on Sunday.  Therefore, we must be flexible of where we meet, how we meet, and where we meet.  Some will state "I can worship God without going to church."  This is true, but the real question is "Where do you worship God at?"

Christian's today refer to Sunday as the Lord's Day.  Some denominations still meet on Saturday since they believe that is the Sabbath.  Romans 14:5-6 makes it clear that we have some leeway in the matter of special days.  Jesus rose from the grave on a Sunday and this is a great cause for celebration.  We should not be critical of others who meet on a days other than Sunday to worship God, nor should be critical of them.

Although we can worship our Lord through a television or radio broadcast of a ceremony, we must remember not break fellowship with other Christians.   Since we are told to work six days and rest on the seventh, for many people in our modern society Sunday is the best day.  But this is not possible for all since some people have to work on Sunday.  What is important is that we take time from our work for a Sabbath, focusing on God and worshipping who He is.
